Misogynistic Behavior, Free Speech, and Politics

Would it be okay to publicly fantasize about John McCain being raped by an elephant or sexual violence being visited upon Mitt Romney? I’m betting not, but that’s exactly what two of the web sites focused on sexist diatribes against Hillary Clinton and her presidential campaign offer up (only with a donkey rather than an elephant).

The article is today’s paper, “How offensive can Hillary foes be?” points out that degrading Clinton in the most vile sexual terms says more about her misogynistic detractors and free speech than it does her, but it also reveals the fear of the female still prevalent within society. Even more frustrating is the idea that these same patriarchal fears of women have been in existence for thousands of years, and nothing changes. This was one of the main premises of Hollywood and Catholic Women, and it's obvious any movement away from fearing females, especially those who are smart, strong, confident, and willful, are many lifetimes away.
