2012 Flying Trout Press Chapbook Contest

The Flying Trout Press is accepting entries for its 2012 Poetry Chapbook Contest until January 15, 2012. First prize is $500, publication, and five copies of the chapbook.

The mission of the Flying Trout Press is to publish new authors. Therefore, the contest is open only to authors without a published book or chapbook.

Deadline: January 15, 2012.

Submit 20-24 pages of poetry.

Blind review: On a cover sheet submit your name, address, phone number, and e-mail address, and the title of your chapbook. On the chapbook manuscript put only the title. Place the chapbook title on every page of the manuscript. NOTE: Author's name cannot appear anywhere on the chapbook manuscript.

Reading fee: $16 in check or money order made payable to Flying Trout Press.

Poems can be on any topic.

Four finalists also receive a free copy of the chapbook and are considered for publication.

No manuscripts will be returned without an S.A.S.E.

Baby Boomer Women's Groups

In a nutshell, the mission of the National Association of Baby Boomer Women (NABBW) is to provide community, encouragement, support, and beneficial products and services to women born between 1946 and 1964. Through programs, benefits, communications, and services, the NABBW is passionately dedicated to uniting, supporting, educating, and advocating for Baby Boomer women residing in North America and around the world.

A sister organization, Boomer Women Speak provides a place offering opportunities for baby boomer women to share personal experiences in a heartfelt and genuine way with no worry about being judged. The site offers over 50 forums on topics as diverse adult education, domestic violence, hobbies, laughter, loss, and travel. The main focus of this site is to help Baby Boomer women realize they are not alone in their thoughts, emotions, and actions.

Schafly Beer Micro-Fiction Contest

Schlafly Brewery and RiverStyx are teaming up for the 2012 Schlafly Beer Micro-Fiction Contest. First prize is $1,500 and a case of micro-brewed Schlafly Beer. Entries must be postmarked by December 31, 2011.

Guidelines:
500 words maximum per story, up to three stories per entry
The $20 reading fee includes a one-year subscription of River Styx
Include name and address on cover letter ONLY
Entrants will be notified by S.A.S.E.
Winner published in the Spring issue of River Styx
All stories will be considered for publication
Previously published stories, including those that have appeared on web sites, blogs, and personal home pages will NOT be considered.

Author's Den

Author's Den was established as a means of helping authors and readers to interact in a face-to-face environment, much like authors and readers did in the past. The mission to is re-create the face-to-face author and reader relationship in a similar way that existed before the dawn of the industrial revolution.

Finding An Agent

Agent Query offers writers the largest searchable database of literary agents available on the Internet. The free database provides reputable, established literary agents in search of authors just like you.

Agent Query claims to have done all the necessary legwork, but a writer can never be too careful. To get the most advantage from the database, consider cross-checking it with the Association of Authors' Representatives (AAR), a non-profit organization of quality literary agents, dramatic representatives of authors, dramatists and other creators or owners of intellectual property.

National Chapbook Fellowship

The National Chapbook Fellowships are sponsored by the Poetry Society of America and are open to any resident who has not published a full-length poetry collection. The entry fee is $12.00 via check or money order made payable to the Poetry Society of America. Deadline is December 22, 2011 (postmarked).

Guidelines:
Manuscripts are to be 20-30 pages in length, typed on 8 1/2" x 11" paper and bound with a spring clip. Manuscripts should include no more than one poem per page.

A complete submission should include:
Title page with the contest name, your name, address, telephone, e-mail, and any other relevant contact information. Your name should not appear elsewhere in the manuscript.

A title page with just the title of the manuscript.

An acknowledgments pages. Poems included may be previously published, but please include an acknowledgments page listing specific publications.

A complete table of contents.

Payment of the $12.00 entry fee.

Self-addressed, stamped post card for confirmation of receipt and a self-addressed, stamped envelope for a list of the winners.

Manuscripts by more than one author will not be accepted.

Translations will not be accepted.
