Tiny Lights is currently accepting submissions for its 18th Annual Essay Contest. The deadline is February 17, 2012. This year, Tiny Lights is offering five prizes in the "standard" category (word count no more than 2,000 words) and the "flashpoint" category (word count no more than 1,000 words).
Only unpublished works are considered, or previously published work for which the authors holds the rights. Rights revert to the author after publication in the hard copy edition of Tiny Lights.
Each essay must be accompanied by an entry fee of $15 for the first essay, and $10 for each additional essay. Make checks payable to Tiny Lights Publications. Mail entries to:

Prizes will be awarded as follows:
First place: $350
Second place: $250
Third place: $150
Two Honorable Mentions of $100 each
Three Flashpoint prizes of $100 each are also awarded.
SASE recommended for feedback/contest notification. A single envelope for multiple submissions is acceptable.

The title page of the manuscript should include the author's name, complete address, e-mail, phone number, and essay word count.

Personal essays require writers to communicate the truth of their experiences to the best of their ability. There are no theme restrictions, but Tiny Lights will not consider essays that celebrate brutality or gratuitous violence. Tiny Lights also does not accept poetry, short stories, or material written for children.
Winners will be posted on the Tiny Lights site by April 11, 2012.
